What to Expect as a New Patient

For patients who schedule an appointment at Balance Natural Medicine, all office policies will be provided in your New Patient Packet, through the ChARM patient portal.

Before Your First Appointment

When you schedule your initial office visit you will be sent a New Patient Packet through our online patient portal program. This includes intake forms and other information we need to see you as a new patient. These will take at least 20 minutes to complete so please reserve some time to fill them out at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

We also ask that you gather together and bring any lab work or imaging reports you’ve had done in the last year. If you are currently taking any medications or supplements, we also recommend bringing these with you to your first appointment. We collect a nonrefundable booking deposit to hold your first office visit. You will then be charged the remainder of the first office visit fee at the time of your appointment.

During Your Appointment

To help you address your health holistically, Dr. Abby will spend time during your first visit getting to know your story and gathering information. Expect your first office visit to last up to 90 minutes. Pediatric visits can last up to 60 minutes. This visit is focused on the most fundamental component of the Naturopathic therapeutic order – ‘Establishing the Foundation for Optimal Health’ – while also identifying all areas of concern. Dr. Abby will review any past lab work or medical records that you bring. A physical exam will be performed as necessary and appropriate (physical exams are not done in New York). We will discuss Naturopathic philosophy and we will begin to create a plan that will help you reach your health goals. Dr. Abby may recommend certain lab work to have done or nutritional strategies to try before your next visit.

Follow-Up Appointments

Follow-up Naturopathic appointments vary on length depending on how you are doing. During this time, you will discuss how your health has changed since your last visit and how your initial wellness plan worked for you. Any lab results that have come in will be reviewed in detail. Having synthesized your initial intake with incoming lab results, Dr. Abby will share a more comprehensive naturopathic plan focused on moving you closer to optimal health.

As patients progress through their full course of treatment they tend to pass through a series of phases, beginning with improvements in the specific symptoms they came to see us for, then improvements in more general health parameters such as energy, sleep, overall wellbeing and enjoyment of life. Ultimately patients gain greater confidence and independence in improving and managing their own health.

In order to best support you, it is ideal to see your ND on a regular basis. To meet your wellness goals it is beneficial to have a regular and long term relationship. Dr. Abby will recommend when to schedule follow-ups based on your individual treatment plan and your personal health history but in general she likes to see her patients every few months in the first year of working with a patient.

If at that point, you are closer to achieving your health goals, Dr. Abby recommends continuing to follow-up once a year to work on preventative medicine and keep her updated on your health and wellbeing.

Once you’ve established care with Dr. Egginton, you can do your follow-up visits via telemedicine (HIPPA compliant online video) or phone if you’d prefer.

After Your Visit & Between Visits

The wellness plan you and the doctor discuss during your appointment will be sent to you through Fullscript so that you can purchase the supplements and natural products that have been recommended. You can also use Fullscript to order refills when needed.

Dr. Abby will advise you when to schedule your next follow-up appointment. If you have lab work done, you will need to schedule an appointment to review the results of the labs.

To schedule a follow-up appointment call the office at 914-919-9300. Patients who have have already been seen at Balance Natural Medicine can also request an appointment slot through ChARM.

If you have questions about your wellness plan, you can call the office at 914-919-9300 or send a message through the ChARM patient portal. Review your New Patient Packet for Balance Natural Medicine’s communication policies.

The ChARM patient portal is a HIPAA compliant method of addressing any questions about your wellness plan. This is also where the handouts, tracking tools, and lab results you’ve received at Balance Natural Medicine will be uploaded.
